There are artists who perform, and then there are artists who embody purpose. Knowbody, this year’s featured performer at the Jasai Open Mic, is the latter, an all-in-one lyricist, musician, dancer, and educator whose journey is rooted in legacy, authenticity, and evolution.
For Knowbody, the stage isn’t just a spotlight, it’s a call to action. His artistry runs deep, etched into his DNA through generations of musical influence. From praise dancing and church choir melodies to rapping at 13, picking up the guitar in college, and later mastering the drums, his creative path has been a dynamic fusion of rhythm, movement, and message. He’s also the founder of a college dance crew and a born performer who thrives on community engagement.
What inspired him most? His sister Andrea, who saw his potential long before the world did and pushed him to pour his heart into writing, recording, and performing. Since then, Knowbody has been a force of nature, bringing his multi-disciplinary talents to audiences with raw honesty and electric presence.
As a creative and curator, Knowbody is also stepping into his role as a connector. He recently launched two original event series, Emcee’s Den, a live cypher event debuting August 23rd, and You Know Who!! Autumn Jam, a multi-artist showcase happening September 20th at Loft Abstract. His mission? To build powerful, resource-rich platforms that amplify artistry and foster creative ecosystems across Philadelphia.
Knowbody’s vision for Philly’s arts scene is full of optimism, but also urgency. He dreams of a more interconnected network, where access to spaces and opportunities is shared, not siloed. For him, it’s not just about who’s shining, but about how we all help one another shine.
