Lights, Lens, and Legacy – The Director’s Journey of Lynn Shirley

Updated: Jul 27

Lynn Shirley

Director, Jasai Theater Festival 2025

Lynn Shirley is on a mission to leave a mark. Not just on scripts or stages, but on hearts, communities, and the next generation of little Black and brown girls who need to see what's possible. Her big dream? To become a household name by creating work that sparks real conversations and meaningful change in the lives of people of color.

As a director for this year’s Jasai Theater Festival, Lynn is stepping into a role that allows her to create from a new vantage point. While audiences have come to know her for her onstage presence, this moment is about vision. About seeing a story she didn’t write and guiding it to life through her lens. It’s a challenge she welcomes and one she thrives in.

With over 12 years of acting experience and more than 5 years of directing and producing, Lynn has cultivated her artistry in both theater and film. As the Director of Worship and Creative Arts at Germantown SDA Church, she has written and produced multiple projects that blend performance with purpose. Her leadership has made the annual holiday production, Christmas on Cliveden Street, a citywide favorite, a tradition that not only entertains but also evangelizes.

What Lynn brings to the Jasai Theater Festival is more than technical direction. She brings spirit. Insight. A sense of storytelling that reaches beyond entertainment and into transformation. She understands the power of art to move, to minister, and to bring people back to purpose.

🌟 This year, we honor Lynn Shirley for the fire she brings to every production, the vision she pours into every cast, and the boldness to lead from the front and behind the scenes.
