They're in community centers, on black box stages, behind the curtain and in front of it, teaching, mentoring, directing, performing, and pouring everything they have into the next generation.

In Philadelphia, we call them our unsung heroes. And this year, the Jasai Awards is calling their names.

The Jasai Awards was born out of a truth we could no longer ignore, the people who have held up this city’s arts scene for decades, those who have created magic from scraps, who have mentored thousands of kids in dance, drama, music, and production, have rarely gotten the flowers they deserve.

These are the artists who didn’t wait for funding. Who didn’t stop when the spotlight turned elsewhere. Who kept showing up, writing, directing, producing, and nurturing excellence, even when the resources weren’t there.

They are the reason Philly has Grammy-winning vocalists, Broadway-caliber actors, and dynamic creators making waves around the world. And they are still here. Still creating. Still transforming lives. Still making us smile.
