For The Stuttering Poet, poetry isn’t just performance, it’s personal liberation.
Growing up with a speech impediment, he often felt like his voice didn’t land the way he intended. But instead of shrinking in silence, he chose a mic. Through poetry, he found a space where his pauses became power, and his stutter became a signature.
Since the age of 13, he’s been crafting verses that pierce straight through the noise, and by 16, he was performing them with fearless vulnerability. His art is raw, honest, and reflective, offering a deeply human look at the struggles and triumphs that define the journey of self-expression.
One of his proudest moments? Being recognized by the Richmond, VA chapter of the NAACP, a full-circle moment for a young artist who once questioned whether his voice would ever be fully heard. Today, he’s not just heard—he’s felt.
Now based in Philadelphia, The Stuttering Poet continues to push the envelope of artistic authenticity. He’s the creator of the "Journey of an Artist" YouTube channel, where he documents the highs, lows, and lessons of a working creative. His poetry book, “Broken Record,” is both a personal anthology and a testament to how far he’s come.
But his message doesn’t stop at the page or the stage. He’s calling for more paid opportunities for artists, real platforms, real equity, and real investment in local creatives who are changing lives through art.
The Jasai Open Mic will showcase his truth, his timing, and his talent. And whether you stutter or soar, his presence reminds us all: your voice is valid, your story is powerful, and your art can change everything.
