Performing Artist, Arts Educator, Brand Manager | Jasai Theater Festival 2025 Honoree

To speak of Janeé Latrice Abbott is to speak of lineage, purpose, and power. A dynamic performer, educator, and brand visionary, Janeé embodies what it means to merge creativity with legacy, carrying forward the torch of her mother, the legendary Joyce Abbott, while boldly forging a path of her own.

A professionally trained dancer and vocalist with a heart for transformation, Janeé made her debut on national stages like the 2016 Democratic National Convention, but it was the classroom that ultimately captured her soul. In 2025, she left her career in hospitality event management to answer a deeper call: to pour into Black students through arts-integrated education. Now serving as Dance Department Director at Global Leadership Academy Charter Schools, she teaches not just choreography, but cultural affirmation, confidence, and academic excellence.

Janeé is a true multi-hyphenate. Her career spans podcasting, performance, professional development, and producing independent music, including two soul-bearing albums, Self Titled (2011) and Back to Me (2021). As Founder of The Boogie Down Experience, she used dance to empower women and cultivate joy. Today, as Brand Manager to her mother, whose name inspired the hit TV series Abbott Elementary, Janeé continues to build generational momentum with precision, humility, and heart.

What sets her apart is not just her resume, but her lens. She challenges the culture of clout and calls for a return to craft, mentorship, and integrity in business. In her own words:

“One of the concerns I hold is how we've been socially conditioned, whether through systems or survival tactics, to see each other as competition rather than community. That mindset often shows up as gatekeeping, a lack of collaboration, and an unwillingness to share knowledge or resources that could elevate us all.”

As a speaker at the upcoming State of Black Learning Conference and the creative force behind her new live music experience Keep Me Company, Janeé continues to push conversations forward, on stage, in schools, and behind the scenes.

This year, the Jasai Theater Festival honors Janeé Abbott not only for her talent, but for her truth. Her mantra echoes through every stage she touches: Legacy over ego. Purpose over pressure. And always, art with intention
